Special Olympics New York (SONY) would not be able to exist without the devotion of our volunteers. Our network of more than 25,000 volunteers do everything from coach, drive the team bus and repair uniforms.

While many volunteers help provide athletes with the core experience, training and competition, others are involved with every aspect of the SONY organization. Opportunities exist to sit on local, regional and statewide committees, host fund-raisers and serve on the Board of Directors. It's why we say that athletes are the heart of Special Olympics and volunteers are the muscle and backbone.

Our volunteer pool is dedicated and diverse. Involvement with Special Olympics creates pride, lifelong friendships and rewards of immeasurable value. Volunteers are an important part of a global movement that provides athletes with intellectual disabilities the excitement, joy and personal fulfillment associated with sport training and competition.
